Community Speedwatch - Can you volunteer?

The awful accident that took place at the Towcester Road roundabout in June, has reinforced all of our concerns about speeding in the area.

Residents who come along to our bi-monthly forums having been telling us how worried they are about road safety locally. We want to work with residents to tackle this. With your support we are hoping to join the Community Speedwatch Scheme as part of our response to this issue.

Speedwatch trains volunteers to use a calibrated speed gun, the same as the police use, anyone caught speeding is sent a letter from the police, although fines are not issued, repeat offenders can expect a visit from the police.

As part of the scheme, we also get signs reminding people to slow down and interactive devices displaying the speed of a vehicle for drivers to see. All the evidence collected from Speedwatch can be used in any discussions with West Northamptonshire Council over possible traffic calming methods.

But we can only participate if we have volunteers.

If you are interested then please email Kate, our clerk clerk@farcottonanddelapre-cc.gov.uk Or call or text 07835 171870. All volunteers will need to take part in training on how to use the speed gun and the information to be recorded.
