Councillors

Cllr. Alastair Andrews
"I was born and raised in Far Cotton and have resident in the area for 40 years. I feel very personally invested in the area, it's community and it's people.
Being Mixed-Race and from a single parent family I am passionate about keeping the areas safe and welcoming for all backgrounds and ages. I am a keen martial artist and have represented my town, county and country on many occasions holding several championship titles. I am a big advocate of keeping our youth engaged with our local boxing club and see such activities as an avenue away from crime towards good health.
I have done work with the Frank Bruno Foundation in Standens Barn and The Bridge Substance Misuse Program on Gold Street. I am also deeply appreciative of our local wildlife and history and can be found most mornings feeding the crows at Delapre Abbey whilst enjoying the woodlands."

Cllr. Danielle Bird
"Hi, I'm Danielle. I moved to Far Cotton a few years ago when I started working at the UON in the Sustainability Team. I love this historic district of Northampton and can see and feel the strong sense of community since moving here.
I'm born and bred in Northamptonshire - a small town less than 20 miles away, but since moving to Far Cotton I have settled in to make this place my new home, with my dog, Stella!
As a resident, I have found myself getting more involved in community and environmental events or challenges (such as proposed planning and developments, tree planting, litter picking etc) and decided that I wanted to be able to give back and really try to drive positive change and help achieve the potential Far Cotton has to offer!
I am a qualified environment and sustainability professional - this is my passion. And at the centre of this is community. I would love to see Far Cotton thrive for all of its community and its physical environment, and I hope that we can achieve this together!"

Cllr. John Bright
Chairman
"Since moving to Far Cotton 11 years ago, I have enjoyed being an active member of the community. In 2016 myself and Cllr Jill Harris set up the "HMO Action Group - Far Cotton" as we were concerned about the increase in Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs) due to the university relocating here.
Cllr. Harris and I also created Far Cotton Litter Pickers in 2018. The monthly litter picks were paused during Covid, but we hope to restart them this autumn."

Cllr. Ben Currington
In 2010, when a house move fell through, I chose a place in Far Cotton in a bit of a hurry. But of all the places I've lived in Northampton, Far Cotton is my favourite. I have friendly neighbours, shops, beautiful parks nearby and good local schools.
By becoming a councillor I am taking on my first volunteer role since I moved here. I don't have much experience, but I do believe that if our new council is to be a success we must all engage with it.

Since retiring at the end of 2021, I wanted to contribute to the community in a practical way and was very pleased to become a Community Councillor.
